Privacy Policy

Last updated 02-09-2026

This is a working policy that describes what this portal actually does with your data. Before going live, Janta Se Rishta should have it reviewed by a lawyer so that it also reflects the organisation's wider obligations.

What we collect

When you apply to become an accredited reporter we collect:

  • Your name, parentage, date of birth and gender.
  • Your mobile number, email address and postal address.
  • A photograph of you, used on your press ID card.
  • Images of your Aadhaar card, front and back, used only to confirm your identity.
  • Details of the registration payment you make and the receipt you upload.

Once you are accredited we also hold the news you file, the photographs, video and documents you attach, the location you choose to record with a story, the revenue recorded against your published work and the commission paid to you.

Why we collect it

  • To decide whether to accredit you, and to issue and verify your press ID card.
  • To receive, edit and publish the news you file, and to credit it to you.
  • To calculate and pay your commission, and to keep accurate financial records.
  • To meet our record-keeping and legal obligations.

Who can see it

Access is restricted by role. Only staff whose role explicitly grants document access can open your identity documents, and every view and download of those documents is recorded in an audit log with the user, time and IP address. Your Aadhaar images are never shown on the public verification page and are never accessible from a public web address.

What the public can see

The public verification page shows only your name, Reporter ID, designation, coverage district, accreditation status and validity dates. It never shows your address, contact details, documents or any financial information.

How long we keep it

Financial records, published news records and audit logs are retained because we are required to be able to account for them. Identity documents and payment proofs are retained according to the retention period configured by the organisation. Nothing is deleted automatically without that configuration.

Security

Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes and are never readable by anyone, including our staff. Identity documents are stored outside the public web root and are served only through an access check. The site should always be used over HTTPS.

Your choices

  • You can ask to correct information held about you; sensitive fields require staff approval so that an approved ID card cannot be silently changed.
  • Sharing your location with a story is optional and only happens when you tap the button and your device asks your permission.
  • You can ask us what we hold about you, and ask for accreditation to be withdrawn.

Cookies

This portal sets a session cookie so you stay signed in, and remembers your light or dark theme choice. There is no advertising, tracking or analytics cookie of any kind, and no third-party script runs on these pages.
